No US sales tax
Stop paying 7% tax on your US shopping
Your Swiftbox Miami address is a Florida-registered forwarding-agent address. Most US stores — Amazon included — drop the 7% Florida sales tax the moment you ship there. No forms. No fee. It is already switched on.
Florida sales tax only. T&T customs duty, VAT and OPT still apply on arrival, and each store decides whether to apply the exemption.
What it saves you
7% of every order, straight back in your pocket
Florida charges 6% state sales tax plus a 1% Miami-Dade surtax. Ship to a forwarding-agent address and you pay neither.
| Your US order | Tax you don't pay | In TT$ |
|---|---|---|
| US$100 | US$7 | TT$48 |
| US$250 | US$17.50 | TT$119 |
| US$500 | US$35 | TT$238 |
| US$1,000 | US$70 | TT$476 |
| US$2,000 | US$140 | TT$952 |
TT$ shown at the Swiftbox billing rate. Miami-Dade surtax applies to the first US$5,000 of any single item.
Worked example
The tax you skip pays your freight
- US$500 of sneakers and clothes, 10 lb
- US$500
- Florida sales tax at a normal US address
- US$35
- Swiftbox air freight, 10 lb (US$2.39/lb all-in)
- US$23.88
- Left over after your freight is paid
- US$11.12
The 7% you would have handed to the State of Florida covers your shipping to Trinidad, with change. Duty, VAT and OPT are separate — run your item through the calculator for the full landed cost.

If a store still charges tax
We will help you claim it back
Florida law lets a retailer accept the certificate — it does not force them to. Most big names apply it automatically; a handful do not, and some will not ship to a forwarding address at all.
If you get charged, WhatsApp us your order number. We will send you the certificate and a ready-to-send email to the retailer. The refund comes from them, not from us — but the certificate is usually all they need.

The questions everybody asks
Is this legal?
Do I have to do anything to get it?
What if a store still charges me the tax?
Does this reduce my Trinidad customs duty?
Does it cover everything I buy?
Is there a catch on the Swiftbox side?
The exemption is applied by the store, not by Swiftbox. Most major US retailers apply it automatically at checkout; some do not, and we cannot refund Florida sales tax a retailer has already charged — the retailer has to. The exemption covers goods being exported from the United States and has no effect on Trinidad & Tobago customs duty, VAT or OPT, which are assessed on arrival as normal. Swiftbox is not a tax adviser and this page is general information, not tax advice.
