Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about shipping with Swiftbox — rates, customs, US sales tax, delivery, and your Miami address.

Getting Started

Do I need to create an account to use Swiftbox?
Yes — creating a free account gives you your personal Miami Skybox address. No credit card is required to sign up. Once registered, you can start shopping at US stores and shipping to your Miami address immediately.
How do I get my Miami shipping address?
Sign up at swiftboxtt.com/signup. Your Miami Skybox address is activated immediately after registration. Use it as your "ship to" address at any US online store, and your packages will arrive at our Miami warehouse.
What is a pre-alert and do I need to submit one?
A pre-alert is a notification you send us before your package arrives at our Miami warehouse. You provide the tracking number, merchant name, and declared value. Submitting a pre-alert helps us match your package quickly and speeds up customs clearance on the T&T end. It is strongly recommended.
Can I shop from any US store?
Yes — any store that ships within the US can ship to your Miami Skybox address. This includes Amazon, Nike, Shein, eBay, Walmart, and thousands more. Your Miami address works like any US residential address.
Is there a referral program?
Yes. When you refer someone and their first package arrives at our Miami warehouse, you receive a TTD $100 credit on your account. There is no limit to how many people you can refer.

Shipping & Rates

What is the air freight rate?
US$1.99/lb + 20% fuel — US$2.39/lb all-in, actual weight. Billed per pound, rounded up. Actual weight only — no dimensional weight. Insurance is $1 per $100 of declared value, with a $1 minimum on a 1 lb package and $2 from 2 lb, either covering the first $300 of value. Cover is capped at US$500 of declared value.
How does shipping insurance work?
Insurance is included on all shipments at $1 per $100 of declared value, with a $1 minimum on a 1 lb package and $2 from 2 lb, either covering the first $300 of value. Cover is capped at US$500 of declared value. It covers loss or damage in transit. Claims must be submitted within 24 hours of delivery.
What isn't covered by insurance?
Insurance: US$1 per US$100 of declared value. Minimum US$1 on a 1 lb package, US$2 from 2 lb, covering the first US$300. Cover capped at US$500. It covers loss or damage in transit. It does NOT cover: declared value above the cap (the balance is not insured); packages not in original or proper packaging; prohibited or restricted items; items with pre-existing damage; fragile items not declared as fragile at pre-alert; used TVs or electronics without original packaging; internal damage to a TV where the outer packaging arrives intact; and consequential or indirect losses. Claims must be filed within 24 hours of delivery. Full wording is in our Terms of Service (section 6).
What is the fuel surcharge?
The fuel surcharge is 20% of the base freight charge. For example, on a 5 lb package: freight = $9.95, fuel surcharge = $1.99. This is standard across the air freight industry and is included in every shipment.
Are there extra charges for televisions?
Yes — televisions require special handling. In addition to standard freight (US$1.99/lb + 20% fuel (US$2.39/lb all-in)), a flat USD $30.00 inspection and bubble-wrap handling fee applies. TV insurance is 5% of declared value up to US$500 (maximum premium US$25). Cover is capped at US$500. TVs above US$500 are partly uninsured — the balance ships at your own risk. The handling fee covers the additional packaging and care required for large screens.
When will ocean freight be available?
Ocean LCL and FCL freight at USD $0.99/lb is coming soon. We are accepting US, UK, and China origins for ocean. We will notify registered customers when ocean freight launches.
My card has a US$ limit — can you buy for me?
Yes. Use our "purchase for me" service: send us the product link, we buy it on our card and ship it to you. A 10% purchase fee on the declared item value applies, and you pay everything — the item, the fee and your shipping — in TTD. Tick "Yes, purchase for me" in the calculator to see the exact total before you commit.
Do you consolidate multiple packages?
Yes — if you have multiple packages arriving at our Miami warehouse, we can consolidate them into a single shipment. This can reduce your total freight cost. Contact us or submit a pre-alert for each package and note that you would like consolidation.

US Sales Tax

Do I pay US sales tax on my orders?
In most cases, no. Your Swiftbox Miami address is a Florida-registered forwarding-agent address, which means a US store is permitted to sell to you without charging Florida sales tax — 7% at our Miami location (6% state plus a 1% Miami-Dade surtax). Most major retailers, Amazon included, apply it automatically at checkout. There is nothing to sign up for and no fee: it comes with every free Swiftbox account.
Why is the address tax-free?
Section 212.06(5)(b) of the Florida Statutes lets a selling dealer skip Florida sales tax on goods shipped to a registered forwarding agent's designated address for export from the United States. Our Miami facility holds Florida Certificate of Forwarding Agent Address No. 85-8019168129C-4, valid through 30 June 2028, and the Florida Department of Revenue publishes the list of certified forwarding agents so any merchant can verify it.
A store still charged me sales tax — what now?
Florida law permits a retailer to accept the certificate; it does not compel them to, and some will not. Message us on WhatsApp with your order number and we will send you a copy of our forwarding-agent certificate plus a ready-to-send email requesting the refund. The refund has to come from the retailer — Swiftbox never collected the tax, so we cannot refund it.
Does the tax exemption reduce my customs duty?
No. This is a Florida sales tax exemption only. Trinidad & Tobago customs duty, VAT and Online Purchase Tax are separate government charges assessed when your shipment lands here, and they apply exactly as normal. Use the calculator for your full landed cost.
Does it apply to everything I buy?
It applies to goods being exported from the United States, which is everything you ship through Swiftbox. It does not cover anything bought for use inside the US, and it does not apply to services, digital goods or gift cards. Swiftbox is not a tax adviser — this is general information, not tax advice.

Customs & Duties

Who is responsible for paying customs duties?
You are responsible for all T&T customs duties, VAT, and OPT on your imported goods. These are government charges — Swiftbox collects and remits them on your behalf as part of the clearance process. Our shipping calculator gives you a full estimate before you ship.
What is OPT and does it apply to my shipment?
OPT (Online Purchase Tax) is a 7% government tax on all air freight imports into T&T. It applies to all air shipments regardless of item type, and the calculator includes it in your estimate. Ocean freight rules differ.
What items are prohibited or restricted?
Prohibited items include camouflage clothing and fabric, narcotics, firearms and ammunition, counterfeit goods, and certain agricultural products. Restricted items — including some food products, plants, and animals — may require import permits. Review the full list on our Rates page before shipping.
What is an N-Number and do I need one?
An Importer Registration Number (N-Number) is required by T&T Customs for most commercial imports and higher-value personal imports. Without one, goods can be held at Customs indefinitely. Swiftbox has an in-house licensed customs broker who can handle your N-Number application from start to finish — visit our Brokerage page for details.
Can Swiftbox handle customs clearance for vehicles?
Yes — our in-house customs broker handles vehicle imports including cars, motorcycles, and commercial vehicles. Note that T&T regulations (Legal Notice No. 477) require all imported vehicles to be 8 years old or newer from the date of manufacture. Visit our Brokerage page to request a quote.

Delivery

How long does air freight take?
Air freight from Miami to Trinidad typically takes 3–5 business days after departure from our Miami warehouse. Transit time does not include customs clearance, which is handled as quickly as possible but depends on T&T Customs processing times.
Can I pick up my package instead of having it delivered?
No — we do not offer customer pickups. All packages are delivered directly to your address across Trinidad & Tobago.
Do you deliver to Tobago?
Yes — we deliver door-to-door to Tobago (Scarborough and surrounding areas). A flat TT$15 per package surcharge applies for Tobago delivery. All other delivery areas — Port of Spain, San Fernando, and across Trinidad — are included in standard rates.
How do I track my package?
Use the Track page at swiftboxtt.com/track and enter your Swiftbox tracking number. You can see real-time status across all 6 stages: received at Miami, departed Miami, arrived T&T, customs clearance, out for delivery, and delivered.
Do you deliver to my area?
Yes — we deliver door-to-door everywhere in Trinidad and Tobago. Our delivery zones: North West (Port of Spain, Diego Martin, Maraval, St. James, San Juan, Santa Cruz), North East (Curepe, Tunapuna, Arima, Sangre Grande, Toco), Central (Chaguanas, Cunupia, Couva, Point Lisas, Freeport), South West (San Fernando, Marabella, Debe, Penal, Siparia, Point Fortin, Cedros), South East (Princes Town, Rio Claro, Moruga, Mayaro) and Tobago (Scarborough, Crown Point, Roxborough, Charlotteville). Tobago delivery carries a flat TT$15 per package surcharge; every other zone is included in the standard rate. Just type your town at signup and we work out the zone for you.

Referral Program

How does the referral program work?
Share your unique referral code with friends and family. When someone signs up using your code and their first package arrives at our Miami warehouse, you receive a TTD $100 credit automatically applied to your Swiftbox account.
When does my referral credit post?
Your TTD $100 credit posts when your referred member's first package physically arrives at our Miami warehouse — not when they sign up, and not when the package is delivered to them in T&T. You will be notified when the credit is applied.
Is there a limit on how many people I can refer?
There is no cap on the number of referrals. You earn TTD $100 for each qualifying referral. Referrals are subject to standard review to ensure program integrity.
How do I get my referral code?
Your referral code is available in your Swiftbox account dashboard after registration. You can share the link directly — when someone visits swiftboxtt.com/signup?ref=YOURCODE and signs up, they are automatically linked to your account.
